VANDERGRIFT SPORTSMEN CLUB ASSOCIATION  2023 FIRST QUARTER NEWSLETTER MARCH 21, 2023 Larry Laurenti cut two trees and limbs back at the woods archery range. 54 new members joined the club this year and were given their orientation by: JIM LEWIS RICH CATCHPOLE RON HENRY BOB MATTEO JIM WALTENBAUGH JIM WIGLE WE WELCOME ALL OF THE NEW MEMBERS. TRY TO ATTEND THE CLUB MEETINGS HELD AT 7 PM THE SECOND TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH. IF ANYONE HAS IDEAS TO IMPROVED THE CLUB BRING THEM TO A MEETING SO WE CAN DISCUSS THEM. An officers meeting was held on January 24th 2023 They approved the audit of 2022. They also talked about proposed projects for the betterment of the club this year. February 2nd 2023 a new dolly was bought to transport any equipment used for shooting to the silhouette or pistol range. The dolly is located by the spotting scopes inside the clubhouse door. Please return it when finished using it. THE NEW RANGE RULES HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THE CLUB WEB PAGE. THIS INCLUDES THE NEW COMBAT RANGE RULES. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN LOADING AND UNLOADING YOUR GUNS. THEY ARE TO BE POINTED DOWN RANGE WHEN DOING THAT. A HOLE WAS SHOT THROUGH THE ROOF OF THE COMBAT RANGE AND THAT TELLS US THE GUN WASN’T POINTED DOWN RANGE. UP AND COMING EVENTS AT THE CLUB: The first day of youth spring turkey season starts April 22, 2023 and the statewide season is April 29th 2023 UNTIL May 30th 2023 The trout season first day is April 1st, 2023 Anyone using a boat less than 16 feet long, a canoe, kayak or paddleboard must have on a PFD while in the boat from NOVEMBER 1ST TO APRIL 30TH. All other boats must have a PFD for every person on board within easy reach and open. Brush burning season is approaching. Please be careful. We have had a lot of windy days so try to burn after a rain and no wind.  A Hunter Trapper Education day will be offered at the V.S.C. on June 3rd. WE ARE HAVING A WORKDAY ON APRIL 22.2023. Please bring tools like leaf rakes, garden rakes, gloves and loppers to help out. This is a four hour workday and food will be available. The more people that show up makes for an easier day for everyone.

February Meeting Minutes

Vandergrift Sportsmen’s Association, Inc.February 14, 2023 The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 7:00 PM, presided over by President Jim Waltenbaugh There were 17 members present. The meeting opened with the “Pledge of Allegiance.” The minutes from the January meeting were passed out to all members present. A motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Terry Huth and seconded by Ron Henry. The motion was passed by voice vote. The treasure’s report was passed out to all members present. A motion to accept the treasure’s report was made by Ray Huth and seconded by Dan Barber. The motion passed by voice vote. OLD BUSINESS No Report COMMITTEE REPORTS BUILDINGS   Larry Laurenti reported a hole was shot through the roof on the combat range. GROUNDS   Dan Barber stated he cleaned out all the blue bird boxes and they all were being used. RANGE Jim Wigle, Larry Gamble, Jim Waltenbaugh, Richard Catchpole, and Butch Schreckengost – Rich Catchpole stated that the backing boards were changed on the twenty-five yard,  pistol range targets. ARCHERY Larry Laurenti  No Report TRAP Steve Milicic reported  an opening balance was $1,474.00. Income was $0.00. Expenses were $0.00. That leaves an ending balance of $1,474.00 FIVE – STAND REPORT Jim Troiano reported a balance of $938.49 YOUTH DAY Frank Gray  No Report NRA Jim Lewis  Reported that the NRA fund raising banquet was well attended. He did not have a final dollar amount raised. MEMBERSHIP Jim Lewis stated the club membership is full, after bringing in sixty new members. Jim also asked if everyone would look over the list. NEW BUSINESS Bob Matteo stated he purchased two new targets for the club’s rifle range. Jim Waltenbaugh stated he had a committee come up with new range rules for the combat range. A motion to accept the new rules for the combat range was made by Larry Laurenti and seconded by Bruce Barting. The motion passed by voice vote. A motion to not use shot gun slugs on the combat range was made by Jim Troiano and seconded by Steve Milcic. The motion passed by voice vote. Neil Jankosky stated that the club has received a check for the cell tower rental. He has the attorney reviewing it. 50/50 RAFFLE The 50/50 Raffle was won by Jim Wigle he donated his winnings to the breakfast club. Larry Laurenti won a hat. Bob Matteo won a multi-meter.                                                                                                                PAY BILLS A motion to pay the bills was made by and Ray Huth and seconded by Terry Huth. January Meeting Minutes

VANDERGRIFT SPORTSMANS ASSOCIATION JANUARY 10, 2023 The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 7:00 P.M., presided over by President Jim Waltenbaugh.  There were 18 members present.  The meeting opened with the “Pledge of Allegiance.   The minutes from the December 2022 meeting were distributed to all members present.  A motion to accept the minutes as written was made by Dennis Cribbs and seconded by Frances Gray Jr.   The motioned passed by voice vote.   The treasures report was distributed to all members present.   A motion to accept the treasures report, as written was made by Franklin Gray and seconded by Richard Catchpole.  The motion passed by voice vote. OLD BUSINESS Jim Waltenbaugh reported that the club Port-a-Johns have been serviced for the winter season.   The company has recommended that each year, in October, we put rock salt in the Port-a-Johns until they are winterized. Neil Jankosky gave a report on the status of our cell tower contract.   Neil stated that a letter from our attorney has been sent to Crown Castle requesting an audit of money collected from the cell tower during 2022.   We will be updated when Crown Castle responds to the letter.   Neil will update the officers & members at that time. COMMITTEE REPORTS Buildings:       No Report Grounds: Larry Laurenti reported that he has begun to clear down trees from the archery range. Trap: Jim Triano reported an opening balance of $3,429.00 with an income of $63.00 for the month of December.  Expenses were $18.00 and $2,000.00 was transferred to the club general account leaving a closing balance of $1,474.00. 5-Stand: Opening balance was $2,938.49.  $2,000.00 was transferred to the club general account leaving a closing balance of $938.49. Youth Day: Franklin Gray reported that having 2023 Youth Day at the beginning of August is being considered. NRA: Jim Lewis reported that the NRA will be having their annual fund raising dinner on February 4th.   Bob Matteo made a motion that the club sponsor a table of 10 for the dinner.   The motion was seconded by Richard Catchpole and passed by voice vote.  Any member wanting to attend the dinner should contact Jim Lewis. Membership: Jim Lewis reported 2023 membership will be full after the new member orientation on January 14th. NEW BUSINESS There was a discussion on the need to establish new range regulations on the club Silhouette/Combat Range.   Jim Waltenbaugh has assigned a committee to review and update the guidelines for this range.  The committee includes-Bob Matteo, Rich Catchpole, Jerry Stiller, Blake Whaley and Benard Schrencengost. Ron Henry noted that the storage shed on the trap range needs repaired. PAY BILLS Larry laurenti presented a list of bills needing paid.   A motion to pay bills was made by Franklin Gray and seconded by Rich Catchpole.   The motion passed by voice vote. The 50/50 raffle was won by Jim Wigle.   Jim donated the $17.00 winnings to the breakfast account. Motion for adjournment was made by Terry Huth and seconded by Dennis Cribbs.
