Vandergrift Sportsmen’s Association, Inc. December 12, 2023
The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 7:00 PM, presided over by President Jim Waltenbaugh There were 15 members present. The meeting opened with the “Pledge of Allegiance.” The minutes from the November meeting were passed out to all members present. A motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Francis Gray and seconded by Terry Huth. The motion was passed by voice vote. The treasure’s report was passed out to all members present. A motion to accept the treasurer’s report as read was made by Frank Gray and seconded by Jim Wigle. The motion passed by voice vote.
OLD BUSINESS
Larry Laurenti stated he is going to send a thank you letter to Ferguson heating company for fixing the cold air return in the club house.
Frank Gray gave a final report on sight in days. There were 15 members and 25 non menber’s that came to the range. Frank also stated that they collected $111.00. The expenses for the three days were $124.50 leaving the club with a $13.50 cost.
Frank also wanted to thank everyone who helped and all the members that donated food for the sight in days.

Jim stated that the NRA has resumed the Youth Summit Program. It will be held in Harrisburg, PA. The top two shooters will go to Washington DC. The applications can be found on the NRA website.

Larry Laurenti stated that AT&T was doing an upgrade to the cell tower.
Ron Henry got some targets donated to the club from are new legislator.
A motion to have our new legislator come to the club meeting to answer questions was made by Rich Catchpole and seconded by Francis Gray. The motion passed by voice vote.
Francis Gray will send a letter to the Utility Commission Bureau of Consumer Services trying to get West Penn Power to upgrade the club’s street light.
RAFFLE
The raffle was won by Terry Moore. He won $xxxxx. He donated it to the club.
Rich Catchpole won a key chain.

SECOND QUARTER NEWSLETTER
The parking lot and driveway were raked Feb. 15th 2023 during the nice weather we had.
03-15-23 We bought 150 gallons of fuel for the tractor from Export Fuel at $3.84/gal.
Frank and Larry bought 25 sheets of target board from Stanford Lumber 03-23-23
Larry Laurenti and Frank Gray painted the perimeter of each board.

The shotgun range clubhouse has been completed and the inspector wants a cement pad installed.
Jeff Spiering bought all of the filters and fluids needed for the tractor.

Rich Catchpole stated that there was a police officer shooting on the range before ten o’clock .
Larry Laurenti stated that there will be a hunter education class on June 3, 2023. Interested parties can sign up on the website.
There was a clean up day of the club grounds, on April 22, 2023. We had seven club members show up to help.
Larry Laurenti is being recognized, by the state, for his ten years of instructing hunter safety education classes.
Larry Laurenti suggested that there be a to do list posted at the club. If any member had some time, they could do something from the list.

Frank Gray stated that the club should send in the NRA money that was collected with the membership renewals.

Bob Matteo stated that there will be outdoor day at the Westmoreland fair grounds on April 15, 2023.

MARCH 21, 2023
Larry Laurenti cut two trees and limbs back at the woods archery range.

WE WELCOME ALL OF THE NEW MEMBERS. TRY TO ATTEND THE CLUB MEETINGS HELD AT 7 PM THE SECOND TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH.
IF ANYONE HAS IDEAS TO IMPROVED THE CLUB BRING THEM TO A MEETING SO WE CAN DISCUSS THEM.
An officers meeting was held on January 24th 2023
They approved the audit of 2022.
They also talked about proposed projects for the betterment of the club this year.
February 2nd 2023 a new dolly was bought to transport any equipment used for shooting to the silhouette or pistol range. The dolly is located by the spotting scopes inside the clubhouse door.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN LOADING AND UNLOADING YOUR GUNS. THEY ARE TO BE POINTED DOWN RANGE WHEN DOING THAT.
A HOLE WAS SHOT THROUGH THE ROOF OF THE COMBAT RANGE AND THAT TELLS US THE GUN WASN’T POINTED DOWN RANGE.
UP AND COMING EVENTS AT THE CLUB:
The first day of youth spring turkey season starts April 22, 2023 and the statewide season is April 29th 2023 UNTIL May 30th 2023
The trout season first day is April 1st, 2023
Anyone using a boat less than 16 feet long, a canoe, kayak or paddleboard must have on a PFD while in the boat from NOVEMBER 1ST TO APRIL 30TH. All other boats must have a PFD for every person on board within easy reach and open.
Brush burning season is approaching. Please be careful. We have had a lot of windy days so try to burn after a rain and no wind.
A Hunter Trapper Education day will be offered at the V.S.C. on June 3rd.
WE ARE HAVING A WORKDAY ON APRIL 22.2023.
Please bring tools like leaf rakes, garden rakes, gloves and loppers to help out.
This is a four hour workday and food will be available.
The more people that show up makes for an easier day for everyone.

JANUARY 10, 2023
The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 7:00 P.M., presided over by President Jim Waltenbaugh. There were 18 members present. The meeting opened with the “Pledge of Allegiance. Jim Waltenbaugh reported that the club Port-a-Johns have been serviced for the winter season. The company has recommended that each year, in October, we put rock salt in the Port-a-Johns until they are winterized.
Neil Jankosky gave a report on the status of our cell tower contract. Neil stated that a letter from our attorney has been sent to Crown Castle requesting an audit of money collected from the cell tower during 2022. We will be updated when Crown Castle responds to the letter. Neil will update the officers & members at that time.

Youth Day:
Franklin Gray reported that having 2023 Youth Day at the beginning of August is being considered.
NRA:
Jim Lewis reported that the NRA will be having their annual fund raising dinner on February 4th. Bob Matteo made a motion that the club sponsor a table of 10 for the dinner. The motion was seconded by Richard Catchpole and passed by voice vote. Any member wanting to attend the dinner should contact Jim Lewis.
Membership:
Jim Lewis reported 2023 membership will be full after the new member orientation on January 14th.
NEW BUSINESS
There was a discussion on the need to establish new range regulations on the club Silhouette/Combat Range. Jim Waltenbaugh has assigned a committee to review and update the guidelines for this range. The committee includes-Bob Matteo, Rich Catchpole, Jerry Stiller, Blake Whaley and Benard Schrencengost.
Ron Henry noted that the storage shed on the trap range needs repaired.

Larry laurenti presented a list of bills needing paid. A motion to pay bills was made by Franklin Gray and seconded by Rich Catchpole. The motion passed by voice vote.
The 50/50 raffle was won by Jim Wigle. Jim donated the $17.00 winnings to the breakfast account.
